Smart-Way Disposal and Recycling Ltd. is in the business of providing waste management solutions for the construction and industrial markets. Smart-Way offers a wide variety of products for the handling of waste and materials for regular construction sites and management of specialty situations such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDs) projects. Smart-Way prides itself on providing solutions and innovative approaches to challenges companies face with construction and demolition of projects in Edmonton and Calgary.
Sustainable Development
Smart Way is committed to the concept of sustainable development, which requires balancing good stewardships of the natural environment with economic growth. Due to this we have initiated the New Recycling Program.
Construction, Renovation & Demolition (CRD) waste makes up a significant proportion of the material disposed of in Alberta's landfills every year. In fact, the amount of waste from this one industry sector alone rivals the total amount of residential waste generated by all households in Alberta. CRD Waste consists mainly of common materials for which reuse opportunities abound and recycling markets already exist.
Saving Cost & Reducing Waste
By changing the way we think about waste and making small changes in the way we manage CRD projects, we can dramatically reduce the amount of waste generated by these projects. This not only helps to conserve our resources and landfill space for materials that are not so readily reusable or recyclable, but it often saves cost at the same time.

Products and Services : Waste Products
Smart-Way Disposal offers one stop waste solutions for quick jobsite setup. These products include a combination of bins and bags:
Waste Bins and Transfer Bins
2. 4, 6, 12, 15, 20, 30 & 40 cubic yard bins that are easily placed and removed with a specialty hook system. The bins can be used for regular waste and for recycling products such as drywall, metal and wood. They also feature lockout lids for security and large back doors for ease of use. Smaller 2 and 4 yard bins are used to transfer waste to larger bins with the use of either loaders or telehandler (forklifts). These bins are typically used on commercial and industrial jobsites for waste collection and transfer.
Bag System
The EZ-Bag™ system consists of 2, 3, 4 or 8 cubic foot bags made from reusable durable material that can be used for regular waste and recycled products such as drywall, metal, wood or siding. The bags are used in both residential jobsites where space is limited and recycling is required.
The Flying Bin Contraption (FBC)
Smart-Way Disposal created the FBC for use on commercial jobsites. With the use of a crane, the FBC can be picked up and mobilized on site. It was originally intended for waste transfer, but has also been utilized for material handling. Due to site restrictions, most material handling is done by hand which becomes expensive and inefficient, so the FBC has become a important product for improving jobsite waste management.
Environmental Services
Smart-Way Disposal offers waste management solutions to reduce the environmental impact of construction and industrial projects.
Recycling Solutions
Smart-Way Disposal offers recycling solutions for residential and commercial contractors to achieve required diversion rate that complies with municipality regulations. With the movement toward landfill and waste management and current green intiatives, municipal and provincial governments are looking for ways to reduce the carbon footprint and airspace needed for current landfills. Research shows that 25% of waste comes from construction and demolition projects. Therefore, the need to have more recycling solutions available to industry has become an important consideration in Smart-Way’s service options. Many contractors are using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards to build greener buildings requiring less energy and improved efficiency. Smart-Way currently offers metal, drywall, asphalt shingles, wood, cardboard and concrete recycling programs. With the addition of MCL, Smart-Way Disposal can now offer a more complete service by offering recycling and waste management facilities for enhanced service and reliability.
LEEDs Project Management
With the interest in conservation and the environment, more companies want to be seen as ambassadors of the environment by reducing their environmental footprint. One way is through acquiring LEED certification on new and renovated buildings. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an ecology-oriented building certification program run under the auspices of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) of which the Canadian Green Building Council is a member. LEED concentrates its efforts on improving performance across five key areas of environmental and human health:
LEED rests on a collection of special rating systems that apply to all kinds of structures, including schools, retail, and healthcare facilities. Rating systems are available for new construction and major renovations as well as existing buildings.
Smart-Way Disposal and Recycling Ltd. has developed several exclusive products which enable the customer to be more efficient and easily comply with LEED standards. For example, Smart-Way provided a general contractor with only two products which allowed them to be more than 50% compliant with LEED standards.
